Thadingyut Festival – Light festival – Myanmar (Full Moon day of Thadingyut) (12.10.19 and 13.10.19)
Thadingyut Festival, also known as the Lighting Festival of Myanmar, is held on the full moon day of Thadingyut. It use to fall September – October. It is also at the end of Buddhist Lent. All Buddhists believe that Lord Buddha back to Earth from Heaven after preaching sermon to his mother. It last only one day at the Heaven, but last 3 months on the Earth. During the stay of Lord Buddha at the heaven, all Buddhists mark as Buddhist Length. End of Buddhist Length welcome to Lord Buddha to Earth and celebrate Lighting Festival in Myanmar. At famous pagodas in the big city as Shwedagon pagoda in Yangon, Golden Rock in Lower Myanmar, Mahamuni temple in Mandalay, Shwezigon pagoda in Bagan celebrate lighting festival by offering thousands of twinking lights and candles. Each organization, every family, each couples brings colorful candles and participate Light Festival. At home, after sunset, illuminate by many candles inside as well as outside. Pre full moon day of Thadingyut at Kyauk Se which is near Mandalay also celebrate elephant dancing festival. During this period on Inlay lake celebrate Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda festival. For all Myanmar, Thadingyut is festival month. As it is also end of Buddhist Length, young Buddhist couples are also very happy as they can celebrate unforgettable marriage.
