Sagaing is one of the famous tourist destinations in Myanmar. It can be reached by road from Mandalay (20 minutes drive). Sagaing is situated on the bank of Ayeyarwaddy river, can be reached by river way. After the fall of Bagan, three brothers from high land, came down to flat land: each one decided to established their own capital: one is at Innwa or Awa, second one at Pinya and the third one at Sagaing.

For few years Sagaing had been Capital of Myanmar. Now Sagaing is famous town for holly Sagain Hill which was covered by over four hundred monasteries of Buddhist monks and Buddhist nuns. Myanmar Buddhist has religious tradition of sending their sons to Buddhist monastery to give religious heritage when they are 9-12 years old.

Interesting places around Sagaing
Soon Oo Ponnya Shin pagoda lies on top of Sagain Hill and should visit for beautiful panorama.
U Min Thoneze temple is unique for series of 45 sitting Buddha images.

Yokeson monastery is charming place well decorated fine 19th wood curving.
Myaseikkya monastery is one of the recommendable places to visit which is situated at the base of Sagaing Hill. It is school for over 200 Buddhist monks.

There is another place should visit at Sagaing is Aung Myay Oo monastic education center. Most nuns and novices who study at that school are from different regions of Myanmar.

Terracotta village, paper toy maker village and hay paper maker villages are short distance from Sagaing.
Egg beating festival for 2 days, on pre full moon day of Tabaung and full moon day of Tabaung (February) is one of the outstanding festival in Myanmar.
