Kakku

 Kakku is one of the most spectacular places in Southern Shan State in Myanmar. Kakku is one of the important religious places for Pao tribe – the second largest ethnic group in southern Shan state.

At the present time Kakku is wonderful tourist attraction place for both local and foreign travelers.

Kakku can be reach by road from Taungyi, Inlay Lake, Mandalay, Yangon, Bagan. It is one hour drive from Taungyi, almost two hour drive from Inlay Lake. There is no public transport at all and all travelers need to travel by private car.

Flights from Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay land at Heho airport and drive to Kakku about 2 hours.

It was obligatory to have Pao local English speaking guide from Taungyi for foreign travelers. It was the plan for development of Pao region and to have more opportunity getting job for Pao tribe.

It was one of the ways to push young Pao generation to have education. It is the friendship program between Myanmar and Pao tribe.

There is a big collection for over 2000 pagodas in small land. Local tribe believed that the main pagoda was built by King Alaungsithu of Bagan during his visit to Shan State.

Some believe the legend that pagodas were built during the time of King Ashoka.

 According to stucco curving and iconography of Buddha images, can say that most pagodas were built between 17th and 18th century

Kakku can visit as say trip from Inlay. Can include visit to Taungyi market, Pao tribe villages, Ayethayar wine yard.

Other option is that traveling from Inlay Lake to Loikaw – the land of long neck lady (padaung tribe) by road stop at Kakku on the way.

Admission fee is 5000kyats per person for foreign travelers.
